Could we see thunderstorms tonight and what's in store for the weekend?

Throughout the week, we have talked a lot about the chance of severe weather in North Georgia. Now that we are closer to the event tonight, we see there might only be some thunderstorms. On the bright and sunny side, the weekend will be sunny but cold.

Tonight we will see the impact of the cold front that is currently moving across Mississippi bringing rain overnight and into the morning. We expect the storms to significantly weaken before they get to Georgia. However, a rumble of thunder or two cannot be ruled out as the storms move through the area.

We will see temperatures dropping during the day after you wake up. When you wake up in the morning, the temperature will be in the 50's to lower 60's. The farther you are to the north and west, the earlier the cold air will arrive. As the day progresses, temperatures will drop rather than warming up as usual, and drop to the lower 50's for the daytime.

With the rain moving out early Friday, you should expect much cooler temperatures and much drier weather for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be good days for outdoor activity, but don't forget your jacket.

Below is a graphic showing the temperatures throughout the day for Athens, but a similar trend applies elsewhere in North Georgia.
