Good evening, Athens and North Georgia! After last night's brief bout of thunderstorms and heavy rain (in Athens at least), the clouds and mist stuck around overnight, keeping us rather mild overnight and through the morning hours. However, once the mist cleared out and the sun poked through, the mercury rose rather quickly into the upper 60s and low 70s region-wide, although some high clouds have stuck around (especially to the east).
Going into tonight, the clouds should stick around in the Athens area, with a slight chance of rain showers in the region (especially in the SE portion of the general region). Given the persistent clouds and moisture, temperatures should stick in the upper 40s. The clouds will be relatively persistent into tomorrow morning, and with modest NW winds, temperatures should stay within the upper 60s.
Throughout North Georgia, clouds will also remain rather persistent overnight, although cloud coverage should decrease slightly with westward extent. As such, temperatures should fall into the mid 40s and upper 40s, although rain is not expected in areas west of Athens. The day tomorrow should also be slightly cooler than today, with NW winds and a possibility of some persistent clouds keeping the temps within the mid 60s.
Overall, once the clouds clear out tomorrow, high pressure will dominate for the next few days. Temperatures should slowly rise accordingly, with generally clear and calm conditions making for a comfortable end to the work week. The only unfortunate aspect of us clearing out is that the weather system we just endured is not setting its ire on New England. Thereby, all us Braves fans must suffer through one more day of baseball-less existence due to the amount of rain expected throughout the day tomorrow.
Overall, however, I suppose we can endure the additional day of no Braves in exchange for some clear and calm conditions. And, as our consolation, we might even get a clear weekend (see tomorrow's discussion for details). As always, stay safe and Go Dawgs!!!
