Reaching Totality

Good evening Athens, North Georgia, and our viewers. Today was an exciting day in the astronomical and meteorological field as we experienced a total solar eclipse of the sun spanning from Mexico and crossing through the United States in a northeastern direction up to Maine. For those unfamiliar with the event, a total solar eclipse of the sun occurs when the moon comes in between the Earth and the sun for a period of a few minutes. This was the only total solar eclipse of the sun for the next 20 years!

Here in Athens we reached 80% totality of the solar eclipse of the sun.

In regards to Athens' weather, we experienced a sunny spring afternoon with a high temperature of 75 degrees. Heading into this evening conditions will cool to the high 50s. There will be a small chance of rain as we head into the overnight hours. These rain showers will continue through tomorrow. For the rest of the week, Athens can expect cloudy conditions and scattered rain showers.

For North Georgia weather, temperatures reached a high of 76 degrees. Heading into this evening conditions will cool to the high 50s. There is a small chance of showers this evening which will continue into tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding the rainy conditions throughout the week!
