Record Breaking Highs?!

As we move into the middle of the week, our high tempeartures will continue to tik up a few degrees each day. A north georgia average high for this time of year is 60 degrees, and by the end of this week we are expected to be flirting with 80 degrees for a high temperature! Warm air advection from the gulf being brought to our area by upper level winds is fueling these above average temperatures. On Thursday, Athens' record high temperature is 79 degrees, which might be broken, if sunshine is able to break through the clouds. A neat rule of thumb to go by is that whenever an area's forecasted lows are the same as the area's average highs for that time of year, there is a great chance for a new record high to be met!

Looking short-term, overnight a low of 60 degrees is expected for the Athens area accompanied by a small 20% chance of rain. That chance will become even smaller during the day tomorrow as our temperatures climb up to the mid-70's! Expect mostly low clouds throughout the area, with a possible peep from Mr. Sun!

For North Georgia we can expect the low temperature to be in the upper 50's to lower 60's with a 20% chance of rain overnight. Tomorrow we can expect to see temperatures reach the low to mid 70's with mostly cloudy skies, and potentially see some sprinkles of rain.
