Hello everyone! My name is Layla Thurmond, and I've been interested in weather from a young age. When I was 4 years old, I watched the movie Twister, and it terrified me. Yet it sparked a lifelong interest in all things weather related. My favorite topic is severe weather, and more specifically, tornadoes.

I chose UGA largely because of the amazing atmospheric science program. I am currently a freshman here planning on majoring in Atmospheric Sciences and Geography, with a minor in disaster management. I also plan to get the GIS Certificate. My dream job is broadcast meteorology, but I'm interested in operational meteorology jobs as well.
