Noah Bollenbacher

Hello there! Thank you for checking out my page! It is of the highest honors of mine being apart of the WeatherDawgs program here at the University of Georgia, bringing you only the most reliable and accurate forecasts and updates for North Georgia. Below you can learn a little but more about myself and my background, and feel free to check out my social media pages!

My Story

Allow me to fill you in on some history:

As a young boy, I lived in Appleton, Wisconsin, which is about 2 hours north of Milwaukee, and about 30 minutes southwest of Green Bay. Living in Wisconsin, I was able to witness lots of diverse weather phenomena throughout the years, as we quite literally saw it all (except tropical cyclones, of course). One of my earliest weather memories dates back to August of 2013, when a series of tornados hit my hometown. When tornado warnings were issued, I remember my dad waking me up and heading to the basement, but at that point in my life I couldn't really grasp the significance of severe weather yet; I had really only ever seen rain, snow, thunder, and lightning. When the storm passed and the sun rose over the horizon the next morning, I remember seeing trees knocked over, branches everywhere, and the power was out. My eyes had been opened to the fascinating yet terrifying beauty of natural phenomena. Of course while living in Wisconsin, I saw lots of extreme winter weather as well. Brutal, sub-zero temperatures, several feet of snow, and ice storms, alongside severe storms, sparked my interest in meteorology. When I was 10, my family moved down south to Georgia, which is where I've been situated since then. Down here in the lower latitudes, I've been able to witness the devastating impacts of tropical cyclones, which has only grown my interest in weather. The curiosity of what causes all of this, and the amazement of chaos in the atmosphere, and also the urge to find solutions and help communities stay safe from severe weather fuels my passion for Atmospheric Science.

Currently, I am a third-year student meteorologist at UGA, and I have lived in Georgia for about 10 years now in metro Atlanta. I intend to graduate in May of 2028, with a bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science, as well as a bachelor's degree in Geography. After college, I would like to pursue a Master's degree out west, and hopefully one day work in severe weather forecasting and research. Through my time at UGA, I have also picked up interest in broadcast meteorology through opportunities provided by the WeatherDawgs, and that exposure to the broadcast side of the field has opened up another career alley that I could see myself pursuing. There isn't a specific career sector that I'm locked in on. Overall, I'm keeping an open mind, and no mater where I'm headed in the future, I am excited to apply my skills to the real world.

Outside of WeatherDawgs, I am an avid sports fan, I love to watch some football, play a round of golf, and I'm always down to play some good old fashioned catch outside. I enjoy nature, and I'm constantly trying to find time to get outdoors and catch a good view somewhere pretty.
