A Tale of Two Seasons

Good evening, Athens and North Georgia! If you went outside this afternoon, you noticed that it felt relatively summer-like (despite the fact that we are almost in October and we're playing Postseason baseball). At the same time, our mornings have felt positively fall-like, and our clear and dry conditions also point to the idea that we are truly in the fall season. It truly is that time of year where you wake up to fall, experience summer in the afternoon, and return to fall in the evening.

Looking toward tomorrow, we expect this swing from fall-like mornings to summer-like afternoons to continue. Temperatures overnight will be very nice, hovering around 56 in Athens and 55 in Canton, with mid-to-upper 50s region-wide. During the day, however, we expect those temperatures to quickly rise to near 87 in Athens and 86 in Canton, with the broader region experiencing similar mid-to-upper 80s. Given our dry airmass (and the lack of any impetus for precipitation), we do not expect any rain tomorrow.

Going forward, the weather story will remain similar through tomorrow: warm in the afternoons and rather fall-like in the mornings, at least through Thursday. As we get into the weekend, temperatures will likely peak on Friday (feeling even more summer-like) ahead of a very wet weekend. We will certainly be monitoring the precipitation this weekend -- including the potential for flooding concerns (especially in the higher terrain of our region) and potential disruption to our bout against Vanderbilt.
