Heat with a Side of Severity

Sep 17
1 min read

Good afternoon Athens and North Georgia,

I hope you all have been staying cool with this resurgence to the heat that we have seen today. And some unfortunate news to start this blog off, that heat is only going to get worse this weekend.

Getting right into the temperatures here, we will be looking at 67° lows here in Athens tonight and 66° over in Canton. Tomorrow, we are expecting to see highs in the mid-90's once again, with Athens topping out at 96° and Canton a little cooler at 94°.

Now we might see some relief from the heat, but not in the ways that we want. For tomorrow, we are giving Athens and Canton a 30% and 20% chance of rain respectively. Despite those low chances, the storms that do form tomorrow could build into severe thunderstorms, bringing damaging winds and high rainfall. The Storm Prediction Center has listed Atlanta and most of Northeastern Georgia as possible areas that these severe storms could develop on Friday afternoon. So as your weekend gets started, especially during Friday commute time, please keep these storms in mind and stay informed. You can always check our WeatherDawgs social media pages for severe weather coverage here in Athens.

Have a great and safe weekend everybody!

Go Dawgs,

Paul Lagerbloom
