The Dawg Days of... Autumn?

Good afternoon, North Georgia and Athens! Today was quite the scorcher, with highs surging into the upper 90s--well above average for this time of year.


Unfortunately, these uncomfortable temperatures will continue into tomorrow as a long-lasting high-pressure ridge dominates the US Southeast. Overnight, we expect temperatures to remain slightly above-average with a predicted low of 72 for Athens and 71 for Canton. Tomorrow, temperatures could skyrocket to 97 in Athens and 96 in Canton. Stretching into Thursday evening, portions of North Georgia are under a Heat Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook due to heat indices stretching into the triple digits. Remember to hydrate effectively and avoid strenuous outdoor activities!


Heat will continue to be an issue through the rest of the week. However, a weakening high-pressure ridge could draw moisture into North and Central Georgia starting Thursday afternoon and moving into Friday. This could mean a slight chance of rain tomorrow and a temporary break from the sun; however, any precipitation is expected to be short-lived and isolated.
