Record-Breaking Heat
It's been a dreary day here in Athens, with persistent cloud cover and temperatures failing to break 60 degrees. You can thank "The Wedge" for these conditions - cold air funneling down from the Appalachian Mountains has kept the northeastern corner of the state cooler than areas to our west. Starting tomorrow, we will see a significant shift in these temperatures, warming to almost 20 degrees above average by the end of the week. Good evening, Athens! We've had a picture-perfect day here on campus - there wasn't a cloud in the sky as temperatures rose to the upper 60s. Good evening, Athens! We've seen unseasonably warm afternoon highs this week, and that trend continued today with our high climbing to the mid 60s.
