Scout Carlson

Hello and thank you for checking out my WeatherDawgs page!

My Story

I'm Scout! I'm currently in my junior year of undergrad here at UGA pursuing degrees in Atmospheric Science and Geography, along with being a Japanese Language and Literature minor and pursuing a certificate in GIS. I transferred in from Georgia State University in Fall '24. My interest in weather first sparked when I was really young, around kindergarten to 1st grade; I was fascinated by the meteorologists on TV and all their fancy maps with all the fancy colors. A tour I took of the Weather Channel only further cemented this interest. As I grew older, my interest shifted more from "what is happening" to "how is this happening", which has led me to where I am right now. My main weather interests are things on the colder side: winter weather, the Winter season, polar climates. I also enjoy weather modeling and am the coordinator of the UGA-WRF Club. My main goal is to to go grad school for at least a Masters and then either continue on in academia or hopefully work as a forecaster with an agency such as the NWS.
