With highs into the lower 80s for most of us in North Georgia for the past couple days, this past working week has given us a taste of what summer will be like this year. But along with the warm and humid days, comes with rainy days and rainy weekends. Clouds from the system out west has reached us, keeping most of north Georgia barely in the 80s for high temperatures. Rain will reach northwest Georgia during the morning hours starting around 8am. The system will begin breaking as we move towards the afternoon with scattered showers and some thunderstorms over most of the region for the rest of the day. Rain accumulation totals top out at half an inch, with the biggest totals hovering in extreme northwest Georgia. As we go out in time, we can expect highs into the upper 70s with spots reaching 80 as clouds start breaking in the afternoon. There is less of a chance of scattered showers going into tonight and into tomorrow morning, but some pop up showers and thunderstorms will be possible.
Severe thunderstorms are not likely during this event on Saturday, as the shear and instability factors are not favorable for severe thunderstorm development in north Georgia. However, in south Georgia where values are higher, some severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out based on model guidance. Severe modes such as tornadoes, hail, damaging wind gusts and flooding will not be likely during this event in north Georgia, but that does not mean it is impossible. Our weather models are not perfect, so it is always important to consider other possibilities when looking at the models. If anything does happen to come up in our region, the WeatherDAWGs will be communicating warnings and watches throughout the day tomorrow. So keep an eye out on the weather tomorrow and Go Dawgs!
