Chance for Record Heat to End the Week

Howdy Weatherdawgs readers!

Today, April 3rd, we saw temperatures rising overnight, spurred by southerly winds carrying ocean moisture inland towards North Georgia. That same moisture stuck around throughout the day, causing our dew points to be in the upper 60s. For those of us running around outside today, it was a very uncomfortable and sweaty day. These high dew points are expected to persist over the next few days, as we continue to experience winds based out of the south.

Accompanying these winds, we are expecting there to be a lack of consistent cloud cover over the next couple of days, resulting in persistent heat. According to forecasts done by the National Weather service, there is a 79% chance of record-breaking heat on Friday, and an 81% chance to break the high record on Saturday. For Friday, if we reach a high of 89 degrees or higher, we will break a record that has been held for Athens since 1934. On Saturday, a similar story is in place, with a high of 88 degrees being the record, Athens reached that temperature on April 5th, 2010.

For tonight, in Athens we are expecting a low temperature of 65 degrees with fog. Be careful out on the roads and avoid using your high beams with other cars on the roads. As we warm up throughout the day, we expect our high temperature to get up to about 87 degrees, with potential to get higher if the clouds stay away. We cannot rule out the possibility of a pop-up shower overnight or during the day tomorrow. Chance of rain 10%.

For Canton, we are expecting a low temperature near 64 degrees. With similar conditions overnight, there is potential for fog in the area as well. The expected high temperature for tomorrow is 86 degrees. Along with Athens, there is a small chance for an isolated shower. Chance of rain 10%.

Moving into the weekend, there is currently a 15% chance risk of severe storms in our area on Sunday evening. These storms are associated with a low-pressure center and cold front moving in from the west. Make sure to follow along with all Weatherdawgs updates this weekend.

Stay safe, and Go Dawgs!
