Chance of Severe Weather

Good evening North Georgia! Today was a clear and chilly day across our area with high temperatures generally in the upper 40's. These clear conditions will be drastically changing as we head into the overnight hours.


Tomorrow will be a washout. We are currently expecting around 3-4 inches of rainfall tonight into tomorrow, with isolated areas of higher totals south of the Mountains.


In addition to the several inches of rainfall, we also have a marginal chance of severe weather across the Athens area, with higher odds of severe weather generally along a line from Columbus to Augusta southward. There is a chance of strong tornadoes in Southwestern Georgia and the Augusta area. Stay weather aware tomorrow.


Lastly, non-thunderstorm winds will be strong tomorrow. Athens is currently in a Wind Advisory with wind gusts up to 40 mph. The North Georgia mountain counties are in a High Wind Warning with wind gusts up to 50 mph.


After this system passes through we could see some snow showers push across Northern Georgia. There could be some light snowfall accumulations in the North Georgia mountains, but not expecting any major impacts.
