Wonderful afternoon North Georgia! Today we saw a bit cloudier weather with a decent easterly wind take hold of the area as the cold air damming wedge is pushing continually cool temperatures over the Athens region, causing our temperatures to top out right around 80 and keeping them below average for this time of year. Lows tonight and over the next few days will be slightly higher than last week at this time as Francine is bringing in more tropical moisture into the area, so mid-60s are expected to finish out the week.
Unfortunately, the particularly dry weather we've been experiencing across the area over the past couple of weeks is coming to an end starting tomorrow and continuing over the next few days as Hurricane Francine's outer bands begin to move their way in. We should expect isolated showers with locally heavy downpours, with anywhere from half an inch to an inch of rain as these rain bands move through, with most of the main impacts remaining off to our west.
This newfound tropical moisture entering our area will increase our humidity values slightly, though the wedge is still the prevailing feature of our weather. Increased cloud cover will also dominate the region in the coming days with inclement weather approaching. With that being said, lows are expected to stick around in the mid-60's through the end of the weekend, and high temperatures will hang in the mid 70's. Make sure to keep your umbrella handy over the next few days!
