Sweater Weather in Athens!

Hanna Medler

Happy Wednesday, Dawgs! We are now halfway through our first week of chilly weather in Athens, and luckily, we have a glimpse of warmth this weekend. But before then, Athens will get even colder! Courtesy of the polar jet creating a trough on the East Coast, which is funneling in cold air from Canada. This chill was felt all across Northern Georgia today, with some towns having temperatures peaking in 50s. Here in Athens, we reached a high of 65 degrees,

As we move into tonight, we expect temperatures to drop to a seasonal low of 36 degrees, which puts Athens under a frost advisory. What you should take away from this is that frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered, so if you have the chance, bring in any plants before nightfall. And tomorrow, if you're up early commuting, we advise you to break out your jacket or sweater; it will be handy for this chilly weather!

Also, when you wake up in Athens, you may see a bit of fog outside, but it should clear as the sun rises. There will also be a high in the mid-60s in Athens, and 50s for most North Georgia. The high pressure over us will result in almost no clouds and barely any winds. Overall, it will be a beautiful cold autumn day in Northern Georgia!

We can expect to warm up in the future. As the weekend approaches, the trough moves away from us, allowing temperatures to reach back into the 70s during the day! And there is still no sign of rain in the near future.

Thanks for reading and go dawgs!
