Good evening Athens and North Georgia, today is a beautiful day so go outside and embrace the sun and heat. Today we have reached a high of 80 degrees here in the dawgs capital and 76 up near North Georgia. We have had partially cloudy skies, and the conditions are great for lounging outside by the pool, playing ball with friends, and painting if you fancy that. We are expecting this trend to continue leading up to this weekend, as a storm system moves through that will bring some much needed reprieve for our drought heavy soils.
For our lows for tonight we are expecting temperatures to drop to 59 degrees, bordering 60 here in Athens with a lack of wind and expected cloud cover to increase. The chance of rain is not zero, so there is the chance for the very isolated shower. The highs are expected to climb to low 80's, with cloudier skies compared to today and rain chances climbing to 20 percent as we truck into the evening hours.
For North Georgia, the temperature will drop to 57 degrees with a 10 percent chance of rain. The winds will be slightly gustier, with the winds originating from the south. Tomorrow, we are expecting that the temperatures will climb to 77 degrees with a higher chance of rain compared to tonight.
Talking about the rain coming this weekend, we are seeing rainy conditions manifesting as a cold front moves in, bringing colder air aloft added with the moisture from the gulf. So we are going to be getting prime conditions for rain over the next few days, that will help with our drought situations. The severity of our rain will vary, but it will not be as severe as the states bordering us, but we could get some isolated and scattered thunderstorms for the next few days.
In the case of any storms getting severe for North Georgia and Athens, the WeatherDawgs will be on alert, sending out messages and warnings in the case of Severe Thunderstorm warnings associated with this event. So stay tuned, enjoy the sun, and get ready for a potentially cloudy and rainy week for the next week! Stay toasty, stay dry and especially: Go DAWGS!
