Turning Up the Heat Next Week!

North Georgia has been hanging around in the upper 80s this week with a few of us poking at 90 degrees at times, and this will be expected to continue into the weekend. The overnight low temperatures have also been fairly consistent, as dewpoints have remained muggy at 70 degrees for much of our region. These muggy conditions has put a cap at how far we can cool off, with most of us dipping into the low 70s for low temperatures for the past week. Overall, precipitation chances are low going into this weekend compared to what we saw earlier this week. The region will see less rainfall as a whole, as thunderstorm formation will be a bit more limited today and tomorrow, but still expect a few isolated thunderstorms to start forming in the afternoon hours. Without as much rainfall to keep us cool, expect much of the region to have high temperatures near 90 degrees during your weekend. Then as we start next week, highs will work their way up into the mid 90s by Thursday, with dewpoints remaining muggy.

Currently, we have storms from our west moving in later this afternoon bringing spotty thunderstorms to Northwest Georgia. Along with that, storms are starting to fire from Canton all the way to Toccoa moving east/southeast. The biggest threats with these storms, this afternoon heading into your evening time, will be brief, but heavy downpours along with gusty winds up to 30-40 mph. Brief organization into a line of storms could be possible on the eastern half of our region near 7pm as they make their way out of our area by midnight. The models seem to have most of the rainfall towards the east side of our region, with isolated areas seeing a little more than an inch. Tomorrow is looking to be relatively dry, but a few showers or two could be possible in your early afternoon hours. The thunderstorms tomorrow seem to linger around the northeast part of our region near Blairsville, and do not seem to let up until the evening time. Due to these nearly stationary storms in that area, some isolated spots in extreme northeast Georgia could see an inch and a half of rainfall tomorrow. Model guidance also has storms flaring up southwest of Atlanta, with isolated rainfall totals nearing an inch tomorrow as well. Along with possible heavy downpours expected tomorrow, a few of these storms could have gusty winds up to 40 mph. Most storms and showers will be out of our area by midnight tomorrow night. The chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain in place going into Sunday and the beginning of next week.
