Winter Is Angry

We are in for a very chilly forecast today. In Athens, we are expecting are very cold night tonight. Actual temperatures will fall to around 14 degrees, but still-present sustained winds of 5-10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph will make it feel much colder. We are under a Cold Weather Advisory for this very reason, with these “Feels Like” temperature dropping into the single digits across the region. This will be particularly dangerous to anyone or any pets outside overnight, along with your pipes and any exposed plants, so please take any measures (like covering pipes, bringing pets inside, and checking on your neighbors) to protect against this bitter cold. Unfortunately, the high tomorrow will not give us much of a reprieve from this chilliness, with the temperature only rising to near 40 and apparent temperatures staying near freezing. Precipitation is not expected.

The forecast across North Georgia is very similar, with Arctic cold air in place region-wide. The low tonight is expected to fall to near 10 degrees across North Georgia, with “Feels Like” temperatures falling below 5 degrees due to the still-noticeable wind. Again, the high tomorrow will offer little relief, with the temperature expected to top out around 35 and apparent temperatures still below freezing. Precipitation is not expected.

Thank you for sticking with the WeatherDawgs during the storm this weekend! We will return to our normal operations tomorrow to continue ensuring you get the best and most up-to-date weather information for Athens and North Georgia. Stay safe, stay warm, and as always, Go Dawgs!
