Fall is Finally in Athens!

Good afternoon, Athens and North Georgia! Today, we stayed rather cool in the morning with a brisk breeze coming in from the Northeast, keeping us dry and clear with temperatures reaching the mid to high 70s. As we progress into tonight, we can expect lows in the upper 40s with clear skies allowing for radiative cooling to occur, which will help keep our temperatures moderate. North Georgia can expect to experience the same conditions as Athens, with slightly cooler temperatures and winds coming in from the southeast.

As we move into the weekend, the temperatures will increase slightly back into the 80s on Saturday, perfect weather for the Dawgs to play Mississippi State at home. As the weekend continues, a high-pressure system from the North will push its way down toward us, bringing with it clear skies and beautiful weather as fall finally begins to come to Athens.

Continuing with the progression of Hurricane Milton, it has made landfall and finished its campaign across Florida with devastating loss of property and life. It made landfall in South West Florida as a Category 3 Hurricane with sustained winds at 130mph and storm surges in the most dangerous places estimated to be 10 to 15 feet, which is catastrophic for the communities on the coast. With over 50 counties in Florida declaring states of emergency and record-breaking amounts of rain, Hurricane Milton is seen to be one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit the West Coast of Florida in 100 years. As we keep those who could not evacuate in our thoughts, we must also stay on the lookout for the new developments in the Atlantic as we progress through the rest of this hurricane season. Go Dawgs!!
