Fiery Fourth

Good afternoon Athens and North Georgia!

It certainly is hot today, and we are unfortunately not expecting to see any breaks in the heat over this holiday weekend.

Tonight, we are only expecting to get down to 74° in both Athens and Canton. Tomorrow, we will be seeing highs at 98° and 96° for Athens and Canton respectively. This weekend, we will be see a lot of the same, with highs getting up to the high 90s and possibly even the low 100s at times.

This is the part of the blog where I would suggest that everyone stay inside this weekend, but who am I kidding? It's July 4th weekend and no one is going to want to spend it inside. So the next best thing we can do is spend time outside safely.

The National Weather Service has heat advisories in effect for the majority of North Georgia for the entire weekend, ranging between noon through 8pm each day. With these advisories in place, we want to take extra precautions to ensure that heat-related illnesses do not become a problem. Drinking plenty of fluids, applying sunscreen, and taking time to get out of the sun(ideally in the AC) is highly recommended.

Okay, that's enough warnings. Enjoy the weekend, best of luck to all the runners in the Peachtree, and we will see you all again on Monday!

Have a fantastic 4th of July and Happy Birthday America,

Paul Lagerbloom
