Looking at Athens and Milton

Good afternoon Athens and North Georgia! Today was another beautiful day with clear skies. We are currently sitting at 75ºF here in Athens as we start entering the evening hours. Fall is starting to get into full swing, and it's looking to stay that way as we move forward!

Keeping that in mind as we look at the Athens overnight, the low is expected drop to 54ºF with minimal to no clouds in the area. Similar temperatures in the lower 50s will be seen throughout North Georgia, the lack of clouds cooling it off more at night. Moving to tomorrow, the high expected for Athens is sitting at 77ºF with relatively the same conditions as today. Opening up to North Georgia, the highs tomorrows will also sit in the high 70s across the board.

Straying out of Georgia, it is important to touch on what's happening down in Florida. Hurricane Milton is currently a major category 3 hurricane with winds around 125 mph, and its center is sitting southwest of Tampa, FL. The storm is predicted to make a turn east/north-east, but current observations have yet to see any change yet. There have been multiple tornado warnings distributed in Florida, with multiple confirmed touchdowns as Milton's outer bands started moving over land. Hurricane warnings are covering a large portion of the state, with catastrophic winds, storm surge, and rains expected to hit Florida hard. Evacuation orders have also extended to more areas, including some coastal Southeastern Georgia counties.

Please keep Florida in your thoughts over the next couple days, and stayed tuned with the WeatherDawgs for more updates on Hurricane Milton and our local temperatures here in Athens.
