Rain Before the Shine

Good evening, Athens and North Georgia!

I hope you all have been able to stay dry despite the wet weather today.

While the rain right now might seem dreary, it's desperately needed. All of Georgia is currently under the effects of a drought, with Athens specifically being under an extreme drought warning. This could have led to possible water shortages and restrictions, if we hadn't gotten the rain today.

This rain will continue over night, with the low for Athens reaching down to 53° and for Canton a little cooler at 51°. The rain will move out of our area around mid-morning tomorrow, but with the extra moisture in the air, there is a higher likelihood of fog. Between the rain and fog, visibility will be limited. So be a little more cautious on your morning commute.

Despite the rainy start, the rest of Friday and the weekend are looking to be much nicer. Tomorrow's highs for Athens and Canton will be 64° and 66° respectively. The highs for the rest of the weekend in both locations will hover around the low to mid 70s. In terms of rain, there is the possibility of a stray shower for the rest of Friday, but Saturday and Sunday will be dry and sunny skies thanks to a high pressure that settles in over Georgia.

Enjoy the nice weekend and Go Dawgs!
