As a cold front works its way through North Georgia today, some of us will see a round of storms, starting with Northwest Georgia. As this system works its way southeast, it will start to fade out, but this initial line could give strong wind gusts and heavy, but short-lived rainfall. Unfortunately, a secondary line will start to develop in the late afternoon hours which will then make its way out of our region by midnight tonight. The area, this secondary line starts to develop in, will extend from Atlanta all the way northeast to South Carolina. The Storm Prediction Center has Northeast Georgia in a marginal risk for severe weather. Based on environmental conditions, severe wind gusts seems to be the biggest risk for our region. These thunderstorms expected to form cannot sustain themselves for a long time, but they can be quite intense for the short period they are alive. These storms could bring strong wind gusts, maybe even severe wind gusts (58 miles per hour or greater) along with strong, but short-lived downpours. Therefore, precipitation totals will be spotty in nature, but Northeast Georgia could see the most rainfall out of our region, along with the biggest chance for damaging wind gusts as that secondary line starts to develop later in the afternoon which will stretch into the evening. But spotty totals above 1 inch anywhere in our region is possible due to the isolated nature of this event.
As the cold front moves through North Georgia tonight, we will have partly cloudy skies for the next couple of days. Along with this temperature and dewpoints will decrease. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s for the beginning of this week, and dewpoints crashing to the 50s and lower 60s. A comfortable start of the week is expected, but towards the end of the week, temperatures and humidity values will start creeping up making for an uncomfortable end of the week look likely. Rainfall chances will start to increase starting Friday as another cold fronts starts approaching our region.
