Weak Cold Front Coming

Greetings Athens and North Georgia, or wherever you may be reading from,

A cold front moving through Tennessee and Alabama will arrive late tonight and early tomorrow morning; This will bring a line of storms along the frontal boundary. Model guidance is inconsistent on the exact timing of these storms moving through, but general consensus is that this line will peak into NW GA around 7-8 PM, reaching the Athens area at around 12-2 AM. Model agreeance shows the line of storms will dissipate as it reaches into Central GA, but do not rule out the chances of severe weather. The SPC has North GA in a level 2 slight risk for severe thunderstorms, and Central GA in a level 1 marginal risk of severe thunderstorms. We expect to see some scattered storms tonight here in Athens, and slightly more rainfall over in the Canton area. We are forecasting the low in Athens tonight to be 70 degrees, and Canton to get down to 68. The amount of rainfall will be a big decider of how low the temperature will get tonight.

After this front passes through in the early morning, a slightly drier and more stable airmass will take over throughout the day, so expect some sunshine after about noon in the Athens area. Clouds will linger in the Canton area a bit longer, leading to cooler temperatures tomorrow in that region. Though this is a cold front, it wont exactly be cold tomorrow, in fact, it will actually be pretty hot. We expect the high in Athens tomorrow to be 87, and for Canton we are forecasting a high of 83. I wish cold fronts in the summer brought us a little bit more relief from this hot muggy air, but unfortunately, we are entering the dog days. On the bright side, tomorrow will be windy and gusty, so that'll feel pretty good.

Stay weather aware tonight, especially if you're in the NW area of GA.

Always a pleasure
