Weekend Woes

Good evening, Athens! We've seen unseasonably warm afternoon highs this week, and that trend continued today with our high climbing to the mid 60s. Following yesterday's showers, the sunshine accompanying these temperatures was a welcome change. If you like the warmer weather you're in luck, as highs will remain above average over the next week. But, don't put your umbrella away just yet: rain will make its return this weekend.

Overnight, Athens and metro Atlanta can expect lows in the mid 30s, while temperatures will drop below freezing in the mountains. Sunshine returns across the state tomorrow, allowing highs to warm rebound to the mid 60s. The warm, dry atmosphere will present an increased fire risk. Please avoid outdoor burning for the day - any fire will spread quickly under these conditions.

Cloud cover will increase through the day on Saturday. The chance for isolated showers across North Georgia will begin that evening, just as you head out for your Valentine's Day date. More widespread rain will come Sunday, with precip totals peaking around 1" - 1.5" by the time rain stops Monday morning. With this rain, highs will drop a few degrees to the upper 50s and low 60s, though these temperatures are still above average for mid-February.

Stay safe as you celebrate Valentine's Day this weekend, enjoy the warm weather, and, as always, Go Dawgs!
