Ending August in a Heatwave!

Good afternoon, Athens and North Georgia! We can expect to see some very hot and sunny days near the end of August. Temperatures are staying consistently in the 90s during the day, with the mornings and evenings a little cooler. The skies will have mostly scattered clouds during the days with a slight chance of thunderstorms. However don't let the storms discourage you from enjoying the last of this beautiful summer weather.

Moving into our overnight temperatures, we expect Athens to have a low of 70ºF with mostly clear skies. Additionally, the wind should calm out throughout the night. Looking toward tomorrow, Athens should have a high of 97ºF. The clouds will become scattered agian in the morning, with a 10% chance of isolated thunderstorms. As for our North Georgia readers, the overnight low should be about 66ºF with a high tomorrow of 97ºF. The skies will remain relatively similar to those in Athens, with scattered clouds and thunderstorms.

The story behind this end-of-summer stagnant weather pattern is that an airmass that has moved down from Canada has maintained its moisture and temperature with no significant disruptions. However, the cycle should soon be broken as we move into Labor Day weekend. Currently, we can expect to see temperatures drop marginally and the chance of thunderstorms to remain all weekend. More to come as this weekend draws near! Thanks for reading, and Go Dawgs!
