October Starting Cool

Happy Tuesday, Athens and North Georgia! We've had a cloudier day today with highs in the 70s.

In Athens tonight, the low will hit 61 degrees, with a 10% chance of rain- so don't get caught off guard if you feel a sprinkle tonight! Tomorrow will be the warmest day of this week with a high of 80 degrees and clear skies. No need for an umbrella!

In Canton tonight, the low will be 62 degrees with a 30% chance of rain. Those showers will be on and off throughout the night. The high will reach 81 degrees tomorrow, and the skies clear in Canton as well!

Now you might be wondering why Canton is expected to be slightly warmer than Athens tomorrow, an uncommon situation for the area. This is due to "the wedge". "The Wedge" is an area of high pressure to the Northeast of Georgia that sends cooler air down the Appalachian Mountains. This cool air is dense and cannot rise over the mountains, so it is funneled into Northeast Georgia. So that means when "we're wedging," Athens and Northeast Georgia can be significantly cooler, and sometimes cloudier and rainier, than Northwest Georgia. The wedge is present right now, and it will reinforce itself later in the week. This wedge will be the reason we start October off feeling cool. Some low temperatures later this week will be in the 50s!!

Happy Spooky Season and Go Dawgs!!
