Spring Showers

Good evening, Athens! We've had a picture-perfect day here on campus - there wasn't a cloud in the sky as temperatures rose to the upper 60s. Temperatures will keep rising as we head through the week, a far cry from the "six more weeks of winter" the Groundhog predicted earlier this month. With these warming temperatures will come our next round of showers.

Despite plentiful sunshine this afternoon, clouds will start to creep in after sunset. These clouds will keep us relatively warm overnight, with lows in Athens and the greater North Georgia area sitting right around 50. Patchy fog is possible early tomorrow morning - turn those headlights on and be extra cautious during your morning commute! Highs will return to the upper 60s tomorrow afternoon as these clouds stick around.

Things get interesting starting Thursday. The chance for showers will increase through the afternoon, continuing Friday and early Saturday morning. A few thunderstorms are possible, but the chance for severe weather is low. At the same time, afternoon highs will be near record levels: in the mid 70s! That's 10 to 15 degrees above average for late February.

For my cold weather enjoyers, don't get disappointed just yet. A cold front will move through later this weekend, dropping temperatures almost 30 degrees for the start of next week.

Get your umbrellas ready, break out your shorts for a few days, and stay safe, Dawgs!
