Strong Storms Imminent

Good afternoon, Athens and North Georgia!

Our wet and muggy week is anticipated to move into its next phase tonight. The remnants of what was formerly Tropical Storm Arthur a day ago is poised to churn its way through the state Thursday night into Friday morning, bringing very intense periods of showers and storms with it. If you go outside before and during the event, the air will be very humid and oppressive, typical for Georgia Summer days with afternoon/evening showers.

Focusing on the temperature outlook, we can expect Athens to drop to around 71 degrees as the storms roll in overnight and into the morning, with Canton sitting at an identical 71 degrees as well. Following the passage of Arthur's remnants Friday morning, both Athens and Canton's highs are expected to rise to around 85 degrees. After the system moves out of the state, expect mostly cloudy conditions throughout the day Friday.

With the oppressive rain and humidity, tomorrow will continue our streak of very dreary and muggy weather that we have been dealing with over the past few days. If you have any plans tonight to tomorrow morning, be sure to pack an umbrella!
