The Wedge Returns

For our viewers in North Georgia and Athens, we have been experiencing mostly sunny conditions for the past week with highs ranging from the low to upper 80s. However, we can expect a shift from these conditions tomorrow with mostly cloudy conditions and cooler temperatures. These cooler, cloudy conditions can be attributed to the presence of the "wedge" phenomena. The wedge occurs when a mass of cold air is trapped on the eastern side of the Appalachian Mountains, bringing cooler temperatures to the North Georgia area.

Tonight's forecasted low for Athens is in the mid 60s. A 20% chance of rain is present, with scattered showers possible during the overnight hours. Temperatures will stay mild throughout the day tomorrow, with a high in the mid 70s.

North Georgia will experience similar conditions over the next 24 hours. Tonight's forecasted low is in the low 60s. Mostly cloudy conditions and mild, mid-70s temperatures can be expected into tomorrow.

These mostly cloudy conditions will continue into midweek as we sit under a stationary front, with temperatures getting closer to 80 as the week goes on. Conditions should clear by the end of the week as a high pressure system moves in, allowing for more enjoyable, sunny weather over the weekend.
