Tropical Threat Dodges Georgia

Before the weekend, we were watching the development of a system that is now named Tropical Storm Imelda. At the time, models were forecasting the storm to make landfall in the Carolinas, bringing a substantial wind and rain threat to North and Central Georgia. Over the weekend, however, forecasts changed, and models now agree Imelda will curve east and take a path out to sea. While you might notice a slight increase in winds on Wednesday, serious direct impacts are no longer expected across the state.

Closer to home, increasing clouds and wind are have brought noticeably cooler temperatures to Athens, with today's high in the upper 70s compared to yesterday's mid 80s. Clouds will stick around overnight, keeping temperatures from dropping significantly. Athens and locations across the greater North Georgia area can expect lows in the mid 60s.

Athens will stay in the upper 70s tomorrow, whereas places further west will likely break 80. Clouds will persist, this time bringing the slight chance for a few isolated afternoon showers. Keep an umbrella handy for your afternoon classes and commute home.

Thankfully, these dreary conditions will be on the way out by Wednesday, leaving us with a beautiful end to the week. Sunny skies, highs in the mid 70s, and lows in the mid 50s will give us a lovely taste of fall!

Have a great week, DawgNation!
