Happy Veterans Day, Georgia!
Many places across North Georgia saw snow flurries yesterday as a strong cold front brought frigid temperatures and strong wind gusts. After near-record low temperatures this morning, the Athens area slowly warmed to a high of 50 this afternoon, though continuing wind gusts made conditions feel much colder. Thankfully, relief from the cold and wind will come as we head through the latter half of the week.
Areas across North Georgia can expect lows in the low 30s overnight, along with clear skies. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until Thursday for winds to die down: we're expecting gusts up to 25 mph overnight. Winds will make temperatures feel well below freezing during your morning commute - make sure you bundle up before stepping outside!
Gusts up to 20 mph will continue through tomorrow afternoon. Afternoon highs are expected to jump over 10 degrees from what we saw today, with most of North Georgia enjoying low 60s and abundant sunshine. Winds, however, will likely continue making conditions feel a few degrees cooler.
Thankfully, winds will calm on Thursday. Sunshine will continue, allowing temperatures to climb even more: North Georgia will have highs in the upper 60s. The weekend will be even warmer, with most places breaking 70 on Friday and approaching the mid 70s on Saturday and Sunday!
This week marks peak color for fall foliage in North Georgia. Make sure you take advantage of these warming temperatures and step outside to enjoy the beautiful views!
