Good evening, Athens and North Georgia! I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and some calm and sunny weather!
Today we hit a low of 21 degrees in Athens and 22 degrees in Canton. We can expect a 20% chance of precipitation in Athens overnight and a 40% chance in Canton, so by tomorrow morning, we expect to hit warmer lows of 38 degrees in Athens and 39 degrees in Canton.
Tomorrow we predict a high of 51 degrees in both Athens and Canton, so slightly cooler than our highs of 54 and 52 degrees from today. Tomorrow, unfortunately, we won't see that same sunshine we saw today, as we expect a 40% chance of precipitation in Athens and 60% chance in Canton.
Looking toward the weekend, we have a very large winter weather system approaching, which could have major impacts on North Georgia. Canton is already under a winter storm watch for late Friday night into Monday morning, and Athens is definitely not out of the woods. Our main concerns for Athens and North Georgia are going to be heavy mixed precipitation, as we might see several inches of sleet accumulate, and possibly over a quarter inch of ice. The major impacts of this dangerous precipitation could include fallen trees, power outages, and impossible driving conditions. The impacts of this storm will last long after the precipitation ends, as we are unfortunately going to stay cold. It is very important that you all start preparing for this storm now and stay updated with local forecasts!
Stay safe, and go Dawgs!
