Spring Showers

We saw a beautiful afternoon across North Georgia: not a cloud in the sky, enjoying temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Spring officially kicks off on Thursday, bringing a couple of showers along with it.

For Athens overnight, skies will remain clear, allowing our low to drop to the low 40s. We'll have another sunny afternoon tomorrow, temperatures skyrocketing to the upper 70s. These warmer temperatures won't last too long: we're expecting a cold front to move through overnight. With this front will come winds picking up through the afternoon, gusting up to 25 miles per hour. Cloud cover increases overnight, before the chance for light, scattered showers begins early Thursday morning - make sure you have an umbrella as you head out the door. Skies will clear around lunch time.

The wider North Georgia area can expect a simlar story. Clear skies tonight, seeing lows in the low 40s. Grab a jacket as you head out the door tomorrow morning. Afternoon temperatures will rise to the mid 70s - winds ahead of the cold front keeping the northwest corner of the state slightly cooler than those to the east. Winds will continue to gust up to 25 miles per hour overnight, with showers beginning during the predawn hours on Thursday, moving out around the time of your morning commute.

Following the cold frontal passage early on Thursday, we'll be left with a cooler end to the week. Much of North Georgia will only see highs in the 50s on Thursday afternoon, as a few clouds continue to linger. Clear, blue skies return by Friday, allowing highs to return to the 60s. Then, a beautiful first weekend of Spring: sunny and back in the 70s. Make sure you enjoy some time outdoors!
